Philosophy (Master’s Program)

ILIA STATE UNIVERSITY

The program aims to prepare competitive specialists in the field of philosophy who will have in-depth knowledge in traditional philosophical disciplines (ontology, epistemology, ethics, aesthetics, philosophy of culture, political philosophy, philosophy of religion) and will develop analytical skills to create an appropriate theoretical framework and conduct research independently to solve central philosophical problems within the chosen specialization.

Degree awarded: Master of Arts in Philosophy

Language of instruction: Georgian

Program duration: 120 ECTS credits, 4 semesters

Applicants wishing to apply to the Philosophy Master’s Program must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent academic qualification.

For admission to the master’s program, applicants must pass:

  • General master’s examination
  • Internal university examination (written examination and oral examination), during which the following will be assessed: 
    • Student’s English language competence (B2)
    • Field-specific knowledge (competence in the history of philosophy)

 

Along with the bachelor’s diploma, applicants must submit a transcript.

Within the framework of the Philosophy Master’s Program, students must complete the components provided by the program according to the following scheme:

Mandatory courses: 30 credits

Compulsory elective courses in theoretical philosophy: minimum 24 credits

Compulsory elective courses in practical philosophy: minimum 24 credits

Elective courses: 12 credits (students can choose from both philosophy and other master’s programs)

Master’s thesis: 30 credits
