The English Philology Master’s Program enables students to study Anglo-American linguistics, literary studies, and translation theory and practice while achieving C1-level proficiency in English.
Unlike the bachelor’s program, which emphasizes the structural components of the English language system and the historical development of English literature in a diachronic perspective, the master’s program aims to equip English philologists with in-depth knowledge of the pragmatic and communicative aspects of language, as well as specific genres of English literature.

After successfully passing the general master’s examination, students wishing to apply to the master’s program must pass the internal university examination: an oral examination (in English).
Candidates are evaluated on a 100-point system. Candidates must have English proficiency at the B2 level.
Oral Examination
Candidates must demonstrate field-specific knowledge in English on one topic they have prepared in advance:
English theoretical grammar, stylistics, lexicology, history of the English language, or history of English literature.
Candidates are given approximately 10 minutes to present during the oral examination. An additional 5 minutes is provided for questions.

Research activities related to the program
Various research projects, workshops, seasonal schools, and conferences are conducted within the program. Students have the opportunity to participate in local and international research projects and attend conferences organized by Ilia State University and its foreign partners.
